STATUS OFAIIMS, GMCs AND TRAUMACARE INFRASTRUCTUREIN J&K

Will the Minister of HEALTHANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased tostate:
a) the present operational status, sanctioned strength, services offeredandrevised completion
timelinesof AIIMS, Jammu andAIIMS, Awantipora alongwith reasons of delays;
b) the district-wise details of Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Jammu & Kashmir,
including sanctioned and vacant post of faculty, paramedical and other staff, MBBS and
PG seat capacity, Super specialty services and steps taken to address acute manpower
shortage; and
c) whether Government is considering establishment of new GMCs in uncovered districts of
J&K especiallyKishtwar,Ramban, Poonch?

(a) Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), All India Institute of
Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has beenestablished in Jammu and the Institute is functional with
Teaching/Learning, Medical Research, OPD and IPD facilities. Currently, 42 Departments
including broad speciality and super speciality are functional at AIIMS Jammu. The physical
progress of construction work at AIIMS Awantipora is 74%. The timeline for completion of
civil works of AIIMS Awantipora is December 2026. The operationalisation of AIIMS
depends upon various factors including site condition, project management, regulatory
clearances, recruitment of faculty/non-faculty etc. The detail of sanctioned strength of posts
asregardsAIIMS Jammu andAIIMS Awantipora isbelow:

AIIMS Awantipora 94 252(b) and (c) Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for ‘Establishment of new Medical
Colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals’ of Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, 7 Medical Colleges have been approved in Jammu & Kashmir at Anantnag,
Baramulla, Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Udhampur and Handwara. Management and Operation of
the Medical Colleges approved under the scheme is to be undertaken by the State/UT
Government. Under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes for Upgradation of existing State
Government/Central Government Medical Colleges to increase MBBS seats and Post
Graduate (PG) seats inthe country’,60Under Graduate (UG)seats in 2Medical Collegesand
196 Post Graduate (PG) seats in 4 Medical Colleges, have been approved in UT of Jammu
andKashmir.
Further, for expansion and strengthening of tertiary healthcare facilities in Jammu and
Kashmir, under another component of PMSSY, Government Medical College, Jammu and
Government Medical College, Srinagar, have been upgraded by way of setting up of super-
specialtyfacilities.
