STATUS OFAYUSHMAN AROGYAMANDIR INITIATIVE

Will the Ministerof HEALTH AND FAMILYWELFAREbe pleasedtostate:
(a) the current status of the Ayushman Arogya Mandir initiative in the country, State-wise,
particularlyinTamil Nadu;
(b) the number of healths and Wellness Centres, health camps and outreach centres
established underthisinitiative andthe populationcovered;
(c) the impact of Ayushman Arogya Mandir on early detection, preventive healthcare, and
awareness amongrural andurbancommunities inthe country;
(d) the steps taken by the Government to integrate Ayushman Arogya Mandir with existing
healthschemessuch asAyushman Bharat andthe National HealthMission; and
(e) the measures adopted by the Government to monitor the quality of health services,
grievanceredressal andfollow-up care providedunderthe initiative?
ANSWER

(a) to (e): As reported by States/UTs on Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) portal, 1,83,879
AAMs have been operationalized across the country by strengthening Sub Health Centres
(SHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs), as on 31.01.2026. State/UT-wise number of
AAMs operationalizedacross the countryincludingTamil Nadu isenclosed asAnnexure.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has also implemented health camp like
outreached initiatives for serving essential health services in remote places including hard-to
reach areas. Currently, Ayushman Arogya Shivir, like nationwide health mela/ Shivir are
conducting at AAMs andCHCs since April 2024.AsreportedbyStates/UTsonAAMportal,
from 1st April, 2024 to 31st January, 2026, more than 56.53 lakh Health Melas have been
conductedinAAMswithatotalfootfallof35.14crore.
Under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases
(NP-NCD), a population-based initiative for prevention, control and screening for commonNCDs has been rolled out in the country under National Health Mission (NHM). As on
17.02.2026, 40.87 crore screenings for Hypertension, 40.68 crore for Diabetes, 34.71 crore
for Oral Cancer, 16.24 crore for Breast Cancer and 8.73 crore for Cervical Cancer have been
carriedout at all healthfacilitiesasperNP-NCD portal.
The AAM initiative, erstwhile Ayushman Bharat -Health and Wellness Centres program, is
first pillar of Ayushman Bharat scheme and a key component for transforming primary
healthcareinIndia toprovide comprehensive primaryhealthcareservices toallcitizens.Their
implementation and funding are carried out within the administrative and financial
framework of the National Health Mission through StateProgrammeImplementation Plans.
Under NHM, the performance of various health programmes including gaps in trainings and
accreditation are regularly monitored in all the States/UTs, through review meetings, mid-
term reviews of key deliverables, field visits of senior officials, promoting performance by
setting up benchmarks for service delivery & rewarding achievements etc. Common Review
Missions (CRM) are conducted annually to assess and monitor the progress and
implementation status underthe scheme.
To facilitate the assessment of public health facilities, MoHFW has developed an Open Data
Kit (ODK), an Android-based application, allows States and UTs to conduct a baseline
assessment of their healthcare facilities, identify gaps, and implement timely corrective
measures by achieving compliance to provide all essential services and work towards
desirable standards.
Public Health’ & ‘Hospitals’ are State subjects. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
provides technical and financial support to the States/UTs to strengthen the public healthcare
system, based on the proposals received in the form of Programme Implementation Plans
(PIPs) under NHM. Government of India provides approval for the proposals in the form of
Recordof Proceedings(RoPs) aspernorms& availableresources.
The Government monitors the quality of health services provided through AAM under the
Ayushman Bharat initiative through a well-defined monitoring and review mechanism for
grievance redressal. Beneficiaries may register their grievancesthrough appropriate channels,
including the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS),
which are examinedandaddressed by the concernedauthoritiesina time-boundmanner.
