GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 738 TO BE ANSWERED ON 05.02.2026 STATUS OF ESI HOSPITAL IN BELAGAVI 738. SHRI IRANNA KADADI: Will the Minister of Labour and Employment be pleased to state: (a) the current status of ESI hospital in Belagavi (Ashok Nagar) and the medical facilities available there; (b) the details of proposal to upgrade this hospital into a super- specialty centre to cater to the industrial workers; (c) the status of availability of doctors and medicines in ESI dispensaries of the district; (d) the measures taken to empanel more private hospitals for the tertiary care of ESI beneficiaries; and (e) the timeline for completion of renovation works of ESI infrastructure? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT (SUSHRI SHOBHA KARANDLAJE) (a) to (e): The construction/ upgradation of Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospitals is a continuous process. The ESI Corporation (ESIC) has not received any proposal to upgrade the ESI Hospital, Belagavi into Super-specialty centre from the State Government of Karnataka. However, ESIC accorded approval on 26.02.2023 for demolition and upgradation of the existing 50-bedded ESI Hospital building and staff quarters to a 100-bedded ESI Hospital and staff quarters at Belagavi, Karnataka. The tendering process is currently underway. Currently, the Out Patient Department (OPD) services, Emergency services, Lab services and referral services are being provided in ESI hospital, Belagavi to the Insured Persons and their family. Contd..2/-:: 2 :: Besides, there are eight functional ESIS dispensaries in Belagavi district, where doctors have been duly posted to provide medical care to insured persons (IPs) and their dependents, and essential medicines are made available as per the approved drug list and supplied regularly to facilitate continuity of treatment. The ESI Corporation undertakes empanelment exercises from time to time as per prescribed norms to empanel more private hospitals for providing tertiary care to ESI beneficiaries. At present, the comprehensive healthcare services are being provided through 3 Super Specialty Treatment (SST) tie-up hospitals and 11 secondary care tie-up hospitals in Belagavi District. *****
