In response to Unstarred Question No. 2255 by Smt. Rachna Banerjee to be answered on December 12th, 2025, regarding the status of the Front of Pack Labelling (FOPL) policy, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Shri Prataprao Jadhav) stated the following. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) notified a draft Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) amendment Regulation, 2020 on September 13th, 2022, regarding the Front of Pack Nutrition Labelling (FoPNL) Model for stakeholder comments. The FSSAI has also submitted the Expert Committee's Report on FOPNL to the Supreme Court of India, and the matter is sub-judice. Finally, the FSSAI conducted two major studies on FOPNL: the "Nutrient (Fat, Sugar, Sodium) Threshold study in packaged foods" and the "Survey based study for assessment of consumer's perception on Front of Pack Labelling".
