Parliament Question: Status of Kangra Ghati Railway Line & Chakki Bridge

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 6178 TO BE ANSWERED ON 01.04.2026 STATUS OF KANGRA GHATI RAILWAY LINE & CHAKKI BRIDGE 6178. DR. AMAR SINGH: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware that the delay in opening of Kangra Ghati railway line and the Chakki bridge section has been causing inconvenience to residents and pilgrims particularly those travelling from Punjab to visit Mata Chintpurni and other prominent temples in the region; (b) if so, the details of the reasons for the delay in operationalising the said railway section; (c) the details of the current status of construction/restoration work on the Chakki bridge and the Kangra Ghati railway line; (d) the timeline by which the Government proposes to make the railway section fully operational for public use; and (e) the details of the existing and proposed train services including the timetable of trains operating on the Kangra Ghati (Pathankot–Joginder Nagar) railway line? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (e) Due to unprecedented rains and consequent washing away of piers of Chakki Khad Bridge No. 32 between Dalhousie Road and Nurpur Road stations on 20.08.2022, train services were discontinued between Pathankot to Nurpur Road. Reconstruction of Bridge No. 32 has been completed and track is fit for train operation from Pathankot to Joginder Nagar. Other long-term strengthening works are in progress. § Page 1 of 2At present, the following 03 pairs of train services are being operated on the Kangra Valley Railway line: SN Train no. and name 1 52472/52473 Bajinath Paprola - Joginder Nagar Passenger 2 52465/52466 Bajinath Paprola - Kangra Passenger 3 52475/52476 Bajinath Paprola - Kangra Passenger Besides, introduction of new train services on any route/section, are on- going processes on Indian Railways and depend on various factors which include:  Capacity of that section  Availability of path  Availability of required rolling stock  Availability of matching infrastructure for rolling stock  Maintenance requirement of railway tracks and other assets ***** Page 2 of 2
