(a)to(e) Government of India hasimplemented National TBEliminationProgramme (NTEP)
underthe aegisof the National HealthMission (NHM).
As per the World Health Organisation’s Global TB Report, 2024, the incidence rate of TB in
India has shown a 17.7% decline from 237 per lakh population in 2015 to 195 per lakh
population in 2023, which is more than double the global reduction, while deaths due to TB
hasreducedby21.4% from 28 perlakhpopulation in2015to22 perlakhpopulationin2023.
For nutritional support, the Government has introduced Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana (NPY)
through DBT under which Rs 1000/month per patient is provided for the entire duration of
treatment. Since April 2018, under NPY Rs 4,018 crores have been disbursed to 1.31 crore
eligiblebeneficiaries.
Further, the Government launched “Ni-kshay Mitra Initiative” for support to TB patients
through community stakeholders. Since September 2022, 3.28 lakh Ni-kshay Mitras have
been registered and 36.64 lakh food baskets distributed to 16.01 lakh consenting TB patients.
