Parliament Question: Stoppage for Train at Pettavaithalai Railway Station

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4155 TO BE ANSWERED ON 18.03.2026 STOPPAGE FOR TRAIN AT PETTAVAITHALAI RAILWAY STATION 4155. SHRI DURAI VAIKO: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware that a large number of passengers from Pettavaithalai and surrounding villages in Tiruchirappalli district depend on Train No. 16231/16232 Mysuru – Cuddalore Port Express for travelling towards Mysuru, Salem, Vriddhachalam and Cuddalore and if so, the details thereof; (b) whether it is a fact that the said train presently passes through Pettavaithalai railway station without a scheduled stop and if so, the details thereof; (c) whether the Government has received representations from the public/elected representatives requesting a stoppage of the said train at Pettavaithalai railway station and if so, the details thereof; and (d) whether the Government is considering to provide a stoppage for Train No. 16231/16232 Mysuru–Cuddalore Port Express at Pettavaithalai railway station considering passenger demand, connectivity needs and public convenience and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (d) At present, Pettaivayatalai station is being served by following 10 train services: Sl. Train No. and Name 1. 16811 Mayiladuturai - Salem Express ---2/- §-2- 2. 16812 Salem - Mayiladuturai Express 3. 16843 Tiruchchirappalli - Palakkad Town Express 4. 16844 Palakkad Town - Tiruchchirappalli Express 5. 56105 Tiruchchirappalli - Erode Passenger 6. 56106 Erode - Tiruchchirappalli Passenger 7. 56809 Tiruchchirappalli - Erode Passenger 8. 56810 Erode - Tiruchchirappalli Passenger 9. 76809 Tiruchchirappalli - Karur Passenger 10 76810 Karur - Tiruchchirappalli Passenger These train services are providing inter alia connectivity to cities like Salem, Erode, Tiruchchirappalli, etc. 16231/16232 Mysuru–Cuddalore Port Express has scheduled stoppage at Kulitalai 9 km from Pettaivayatalai. Proposals/ requests/ suggestions/ representations, both formal and informal inter alia for provision of stoppage of trains are received from Members of Parliament, elected representatives, organizations/rail users etc. at various levels including Railway Board, Zonal Railways, Divisional Office etc. As receipt of such proposals/ requests/suggestions is a continuous and dynamic process, centralized compendium of such requests is not maintained. However, these are examined and action as found feasible and justified is taken from time to time, which is an on-going process. Besides, provision of stoppages of train services depends on the traffic justification, operational feasibility including availability of extra time on the section & availability of matching infrastructure such as Platform length etc. *****
