ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE
(SHRI BHAGIRATH CHOUDHARY)
(a): The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), through the National
Statistical Office (NSO), periodically conducts sample surveys, including the Situation
Assessment Survey (SAS) of Agricultural Households, to collect information on various aspects
relating to agricultural households, including indebtedness. The latest Situation Assessment
Survey (SAS) of Agricultural Households was conducted by National Statistical Office (NSO),
during NSS 77th round (January, 2019 – December, 2019) in the rural areas of the country.
(b): The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs compiles and
disseminates information on suicides in its publication titled ‘Accidental Deaths and Suicides in
India’ (ADSI). The report till 2023 is available on NCRB website (https://ncrb.gov.in). The reasons
for suicides are wide ranging and ADSI Report does not specify separate reasons for farmers suicide.
