Will the Minister of JAL SHAKTI be pleased to state:
(a) the quality standards for Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in Ganga drinking water in residential
societies Seemant Vihar, Aashapush Vihar, Neelam Vihar and other colonies in Sector 14,
Kaushambi, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh;
(b) whether any proposal has been received from the residents of RWA Kaushambi Sector 14 by
Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation/State Government Water Department to increase the supply of
Ganga drinking water/test the quality of total dissolved solids and if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the details of the per day Ganga drinking water supplied in litres along with the location of the
drinking water supply plants?

(a) to (c) Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has informed that the residential areas namely
Seemant Vihar, Aashapushp Vihar, Neelam Vihar and other colonies in Sector-14, Kaushambi fall
under the Vasundhara Zone of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. At present, about 55 Million Litres per
Day (MLD) of treated water is being supplied daily from the Water Treatment Plant located in
Pratap Vihar to meet the drinking water requirements of the area. The Bureau of Indian Standards
(BIS) has prescribed the acceptable limit of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in drinking water as 500
mg/L, whereas recent monitoring and testing has found the TDS levels in the drinking water
supplied in Ghaziabad to be in the range of 90–100 mg/L, which is well within the prescribed
limits.
Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has received a proposal from the Secretary of the Aashapushp
Vihar Co-operative Housing Society, Kaushambi, Sector-14, Ghaziabad requesting an increase in
the supply of Ganga drinking water. However, as informed by Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation,
at present, Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam is providing about 55 Million Litres per Day (MLD) of
drinking water to meet the requirements of the Vasundhara Zone, which includes Kaushambi
Sector-14 and hence no further augmentation of supply of Ganga water is planned as of now.
As informed by AMRUT Division, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Water
being a state subject, management and maintaining the quality of water and water bodies as per
the applicable standards (BIS 10500:2012 standards for drinking water and for waste water quality
norms set by CPCB) in urban areas are the responsibility of State Government/ ULBs.
AMRUT/AMRUT 2.0 does not prescribe separate guidelines for water quality. However, the
Mission guidelines advocates to monitor and ensure compliance with water quality standards in
urban areas.
