(a) whether the Government is aware that Maharashtra is a major mango-producing State, with
Alphonso mangoes being one of the most celebrated varieties both domestically and
internationally;
(b) if so, the details of the area under cultivation and the total annual production from each
district;
(c) the steps taken by Government to promote Alphonso mango cultivation through schemes
such as the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and the details of
financial or technical support extended to mango farmers in Maharashtra;
(d) whether the Government is taking initiatives to improve infrastructure for post-harvest
management, packaging and cold storage facilities to reduce wastage and preserve quality of
Alphonso mangoes in Maharashtra;
(e) whether the Government is supporting organic farming practices for Alphonso mangoes in
the Konkan region; and
(f) whether there are any proposals to establish Mango Clusters or Export Facilitation Centres
in the Konkan region under the ODOP (One District One Product) framework or other schemes?

(a) & (b): Yes. Alphonso mango is considered as one of the most celebrated varieties both
domestically and internationally. In Maharashtra State, a total area of 170639 ha. is covered
under mango fruit crop. Out of the total area, an area of 129623 ha. is covered under Konkan
division which is the major alphonso mango growing region. District wise details of area and
production of mango crop under Konkan division may be seen as under:

(c) & (d): Under MIDH, assistance is provided for area expansion of horticulture crops including
mango @ 40% of the maximum cost limited to maximum area of 2 ha. per beneficiary on pro
rata basis for meeting the expenditure on planting material, cost of material of drip irrigation,
mulching and INM/IPM etc. in 2 installments of 60:40 subject to survival rate of 80% in 2nd year.In case of NE and Himalayan states, scheduled areas, vibrant villages, Andaman & Nicobar and
Lakshadweep Islands, assistance is @50% of maximum cost.
Under MIDH financial assistance is also provided for various horticulture activities including
setting up of Pack Houses, Integrated Pack House, Cold Storages, Reefer Transport, Ripening
Chamber etc. The component is demand/entrepreneur driven for which Government assistance
in the form of credit linked back ended subsidy is available at the rate of 35% of the project cost
in general areas and at the rate of 50% of the project cost in hilly and scheduled areas through
respective State Horticulture Mission(s) (SHMs).
Apart from the above, at State level assistance for alphonso cultivation is also given under
two schemes i.e. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Scheme and
Bahusaheb Fundkar Falbag Lagvad Yojana.
(e): Government is supporting organic farming practices for various crops including alphonso
mango by providing input subsidies under various schemes like Paramparagat Krishi Vikas
Yojana (PKVY) and Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH).
(f): There is no such proposal under consideration of this Ministry.
