Will the Minister of JAL SHAKTI be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has achieved commendable progress in the construction of toilets
under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) especially in the State of Madhya Pradesh and if so,
the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has assessed the insufficient sewage treatment infrastructural
capacity and lack of faucal sludge management technology in the districts of Katni, Panna and
the town of Khajuraho in the Khajuraho Lok Sabha Constituency;
(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) the measures being taken or proposed to be taken to address the issue of faucal sludge
management and improve sewage treatment infrastructure in these areas?

(a) 11.91 crore Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs) have been constructed in the country
under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) [SBM-G] from 2.10.2019 to 04.08.2025 as per
Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) of SBM(G). Of these, 77.64 lakh IHHLs
have been constructed in Madhya Pradesh under SBM(G).
(b) to (d) As per information received from Government of Madhya Pradesh, State have
assessed the situation of Faecal Sludge in rural areas and have made district Faecal Sludge
Management (FSM) Plan by mapping villages with urban infrastructure wherever feasible and
planned new Rural Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs) as per requirement in Katni and
Panna districts. Construction of 1 FSTP in Katni and Panna each is planned to fulfill the
requirement of FSM in the villages.

Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), launched in the year 2015 in 500 selected
cities across the country, was focused on the development of basic urban infrastructure in the
sectors of water supply, sewerage and septage management, etc. AMRUT 2.0 launched in the
year 2021 in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)/Cities of the country, focusses on making the
cities ‘self-reliant’ & ‘water secure’. Providing universal coverage of sewerage & septage
management in 500 AMRUT cities is one of the major focus areas under AMRUT 2.0.
States/UTs are empowered to select, appraise, prioritise and implement the projects within the
broad framework of Mission guidelines.
A total of 02 sewerage and septage management projects (24.5 MLD capacity) worth
Rs.121.57 crore have been taken up in Khajuraho Lok Sabha Constituency in Madhya Pradesh
under AMRUT. Under AMRUT 2.0, so far, the State has taken up 02 sewerage and septage
management projects (39.59 MLD capacity) worth Rs.220 crore in Khajuraho Lok Sabha
Constituency.
