GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF JAL SHAKTI DEPARTMENT OF DRINKING WATER AND SANITATION LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. †719 ANSWERED ON 23/07/2026 TAP WATER CONNECTIONS IN UT OF DADRA AND NAGAR HAVELI AND DAMAN AND DIU †719. SMT. DELKAR KALABEN MOHANBHAI: Will the Minister of Jal Shakti be pleased to state: (a) whether more than eighty per cent of rural households have been provided with tap water connections under the Har Ghar Jal component of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the country as of July, 2026; (b) if so, the details thereof in respect of the Union Territory (UT) of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu; (c) the details of rural households provided with tap water connections during the last two years till date, State-wise; and (d) the details of the funds allocated, released and utilised under the said Mission in respect of the UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu during the last two years till date? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR JAL SHAKTI (SHRI V. SOMANNA) (a) & (b) Drinking water is a State subject. The power to plan, design, approve and implement drinking water supply schemes/projects lies with State/UT Government. Government of India, in partnership with States/UTs is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission, since August, 2019, to make provision of tap water supply of prescribed quality on a regular and long-term basis to every rural household. Significant progress has been made in the country since the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission, towards enhancing access to tap water to rural households. At the start of Jal Jeevan Mission in August 2019, only 3.23 crore (16.72%) rural households were reported to have tap water connections. As on 20.07.2026, out of 19.36 crore rural households in the country, more than 15.89 crore (82.10%) households are reported to have tap water connections in their homes. Dadra Nagar Haveli & Daman Diu had reported in 2022 that they had provided tap water connection to all rural households in the UT. (Source: JJM-IMIS).
