Parliament Question: Textile-Based employment generation in KBK region

SHRI NIRANJAN BISHI: Will the Minister of TEXTILES be pleased to state: (a) whether Government is aware that lack of industrial infrastructure in western Odisha contributes to unemployment and distress migration; (b) whether establishment of an Integrated Textile Park in Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput (KBK) region is under active consideration to create local employment; (c) the estimated employment potential of such a textile park; and (d) the timeline within which Government proposes to take a decision in this regard? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TEXTILES (SHRI GIRIRAJ SINGH) (a) to (d): With the aim to develop large scale and integrated world class industrial facilities, the Government has approved setting up of 7 mega textile parks under PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions & Apparel Park (PM MITRA) Scheme. All States were invited to send their proposals for setting up of parks under the scheme. In response, 18 proposals were received from 13 States including one from Government of Odisha for setting up a a park under the scheme at Ganjam.
