Will the Minister of HEALTHANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased tostate:
(a)whether the Government isaware of the recentdirectiveof the Tamil Nadu Medical Council regardingsensitization session onhealthcareof Transgender directingmandatory trainingthereonfor all doctors, educatorsandmedicalstudents inthe State;
(b) whether a numberof Central Medical Collegesandhealthcareinstitutions have conducted these mandatorysensitization sessions inthe country;
(c)if so, the detailsof such sensitization sessions organisedandattendedbythe doctors, educatorsandmedical students inthe country,State/UT-wise;
(d) whether anysteps have beentaken or proposed tobe takenby the Government toinitiate comprehensive trainingsessions tosanitise medicalandalliedhealthprofessionals across the country, ensuring equitablehealthcarefor sexual andgenderminorities; and
(e)if so, the detailsthereof andif not,the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTEROFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SMT. ANUPRIYAPATEL)
(a) to (e): The National Medical Commission (NMC) is an apex statutory body, constituted by anactof Parliament, toregulate andoversee medical educationinthe country. The Competency -Based Medical Education (CBME) guidelines issued by the NMC in 2024 for Undergraduate medical students highlight the importance of ethical values, patient-centered responsiveness, effective communication skills, and gender sensitization. To nurture these competencies, the guidelines include a dedicated longitudinal curriculum titled AETCOM, focusing on Attitude, Ethics, and Communication. Further, one of the competencies has been included under the Psychiatry subject so that students demonstrate an understanding of the medico-legal, societal, ethical,andhumanitarian principlesondealingwith LGBTQA+community.
Further, as informed by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences & Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, the hospital hasstarted a Transgender OPDfrom 17.11.2023, which is beingconductedeveryFriday evening.
