TRAINING TO FARMERS ON ADVANCED AGRICULTURAL TECHNIQUES

pleased to state:
(a) whether Chhindwara-Pandhurna region of Madhya Pradesh is an agricultural area in
which various types of crops like maize, sugarcane, gram, orange, strawberry, onion, garlic,
kodo, kutki etc. are produced on large scale, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether there is any advanced training or information institute in the district to provide
Agricultural information and training of advanced agricultural techniques to the farmers; and
(c) whether the Government is considering or proposes to open a regional office of the Indian
Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to provide advanced techniques and training facilities
to the farmers in this area?

(a) to (c): The major agricultural crops grown in Chhindwara and Pandhurna districts of
Madhya Pradesh are maize, wheat, rice, small millets, gram, tur, soybean, rapeseed-mustard,
groundnut, sugarcane and cotton. The details of area and production of these crops during
the year 2023-24 in the district of Chhindwara and Pandhurna districts is given at Annexure.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research has set up 2 Krishi Vigyan Kendras
(KVKs) in Chhindwara and Pandhurna districtis of Madhya Pradesh to promote advanced
agricultural techniques through technology assessment, demonstration and capacity
development among the extension functionaries of State governments and farmers. As part
of their activities, the KVKs train the farmers on various facets of advanced agricultural
techniques and organize extension activities to develop awareness about these technologies
among the farmers.
Further, the Ministry is implementing the National Food Security & Nutrition Mission
(NFSNM) in the 28 States and 2 Union Territories (UTs), including Madhya Pradesh, with the
objective to increase production of Rice, Wheat, Pulses, Coarse Cereals (Maize & Barley),
Commercial Crops (Cotton, Jute & Sugarcane) and Nutri-Cereals (Shree Anna) through area
expansion, adoption of different cropping patterns and productivity enhancement in a
sustainable manner. Further, the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Horticulture
Mission (NHM) is being implemented in all the districts of the State and the focus crops
identified are Mango, Orange, Aonla, Guava, Ber, Custard Apple, Banana, Garlic, Coriander,
Chilies and Flowers.ANNEXURE
