Parliament Question: Trichy Airport runway extension

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. : 3484 TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 23rd March 2026 TRICHY AIRPORT RUNWAY EXTENSION 3484. SMT RAJATHI Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:- (a) whether the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has received a formal proposal for the extension of the runway at Trichy International airport; (b) if so, the current status of the proposal regarding the extension process; (c) what is the project cost and expected timeline of completion of this project; and (d) the measures to be taken to ensure that the airport is equipped to handle wide-body aircraft to support long-haul international flights and boost regional agricultural exports? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol) (a) to (d): For the long-term development of Trichy Airport, 512.52 acres of land was requested from the State Government, out of which 457 acres has been handed over to AAI. The requested land was for the extension of runway for Operation of Code E type of Aircraft, new terminal building along with apron as per passenger traffic requirement and other associated airside and city side facilities. The commencement of the work is contingent upon the handing over of the remaining land by the State Government, free from all encumbrances. ******
