In response to Unstarred Question No. 869 raised by Shri Arun Kumar Sagar, regarding the government's plans to upgrade and modernize airports, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Shri Murlidhar Mohol, stated that airport upgradation and modernization is a continuous process undertaken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other airport operators. Projects are implemented in phases, contingent on land availability, financial viability, and operational needs. The AAI is currently undertaking development and expansion works at airports including Chennai, Jammu, Udaipur, Belagavi, Agra, Bagdogra, Darbhanga, Varanasi, Bihta, and Keshod. Regular monitoring is conducted within the Ministry of Civil Aviation to ensure timely implementation of these projects. Currently, there is no proposal to establish an Airport Development Centre under consideration within the Ministry. The answer is to be answered on the 4th of December 2025.

Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Government proposes to upgrade and modernise airports and if so,
the details thereof; and
(b) whether there is any proposal to establish an Airport Development Centre for
the said purpose and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): The upgradation and modernization of airports is a continuous process and
is undertaken by Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other Airport Operators from
time to time depending on the passenger demand forecast, operational requirements
for safety of aircraft operations and demand from airlines. Development works are
taken up in a phased manner, subject to the availability of land, financial viability,
and operational needs related to intended aircraft operations. The Airports Authority
of India (AAI) has undertaken development and expansion works at various airports,
which inter-alia include, Chennai, Jammu, Udaipur, Belagavi, Agra, Bagdogra,
Darbhanga, Varanasi, Bihta and Keshod Airports.
To ensure timely implementation of airport expansion and modernization projects,
regular monitoring is conducted at various levels in the Ministry of Civil Aviation in
coordination with relevant stakeholders. However, no proposal to establish an
Airport Development Centre is under consideration in the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
