**Summary:**
In response to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 2061, the Ministry of Civil Aviation addressed the steps taken to upgrade security systems at Indian airports over the last five years. Airports are equipped with standard security equipment including CCTV, ATRS, XBIS, DFMDs, HHMDs, and ETDs. Several major airports have seen upgrades with systems like Dual View XBIS, Biometric Access Control, Queue Management Systems, ATRS, Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS), Remote Screening, and Digi Yatra (facial verification). The financial responsibility for security equipment lies with airport operators. The government promotes indigenous technology and the "Make in India" initiative under Atma Nirbhar Bharat to improve security. According to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), no serious security lapses were registered in the last five years; however, trespassing incidents were detected and addressed. The Ministry is also exploring the integration of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to enhance airport security.

UPGRADATION OF SECURITY SYSTEM AT AIRPORT

Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION
be pleased to state:-
(a) the details of the steps taken by the Government to upgrade the security
systems and equipment across all airports in the country during the last five
years along with the funds allocated and utilised in this regard;
(b) whether the Government has considered increasing investments in
indigenous technology to be utilised for improving security at airports and if
so, the details thereof;
(c) the details of the total number of serious security lapses registered during
the last five years along with the action taken by the Government to rectify
such situations; and
(d) whether the Government has considered developing/utilising Artificial
lntelligence to improve security at airports and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): All the airports in India are provided with security equipment like
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS)/
X-ray Baggage Inspection System (X-BIS), Door Frame Metal Detectors
(DFMDs), Hand Held Metal Detectors (HHMDs) and Explosive Trace
Detectors (ETDs), etc. Some of the major airports are equipped with
upgraded security systems and equipment over the last 5 years like Dual View
XBIS, Biometric Access Control System, Queue Management System, ATRS,
Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS), Remote Screening and Digi
Yatra, a facial-verification-based access.
The expenditure on provision for security equipment is the responsibility ofairport operators. Promotion of indigenous products and technologies is an
ongoing effort and Government promotes Make in India initiative under
Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
(c): As per Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the aviation security
regulator of India, there is no serious security lapse registered during the last
5 years. However, some cases of trespassing were detected and trespassers
were apprehended.
(d): Equipping airports with emerging technologies, including Artificial
Intelligence (AI) for airport security is an ongoing process.
