GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS (DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS) RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO- 800 ANSWERED ON- 05/02/2026 UPGRADATION OF SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRAINING FACILITIES 800. SHRI DIGVIJAYA SINGH SMT. PHULO DEVI NETAM Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state :- (a) whether Government is aware of inadequate sports infrastructure and limited training facilities available across the country including Chhattisgarh; (b) whether any proposals have been received from various State/UT Administrations for the development or upgradation of sports infrastructure, including construction of indoor stadiums, outdoor grounds, swimming facilities and youth training centres; (c) if so, the State/UT-wise details thereof and the current status of such proposals; (d) the number of Government-funded training centres, academies and coaches available across India, sports-wise; and (e) the State/UT-wise number of athletes who have received support at such centres during the last five years? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS (DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA) (a) to (e) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility of development of sports, including development or upgradation of sports infrastructure, including construction of indoor stadiums, outdoor grounds, swimming facilities and youth training centres, rests primarily with the State/Union Territory Governments. The Union Government supplements their efforts by bridging critical gaps. The schemes of this Ministry are demand driven. The proposals received from the State/ UT Government and other eligible entities are considered for financial support, subject to their completeness, technical feasibility and availability of funds under the scheme. The details of other sports facilities such as Khelo India Centres (KIC), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCE) and Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAA), across the country, including in the State of Chhattisgarh, are available in the public domain on the dashboard of the Ministry at https://dashboard.kheloindia.gov.in. In addition to above, the details of various sports facilities run by SAI, such as National Centres of Excellence (NCoE), Sports Training Centres (STC), Extension Centres of STCs, across the country, including in State of Chhattisgarh, are available at https://sportsauthorityofindia.nic.in. The State/UT-wise number of athletes covered under the Sports Promotional Schemes of SAI and Khelo India Scheme, during the last five years is provided at Annexure-II.
