**Summary of Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 4007 Regarding the National Youth Development Fund (NYDF)**
This document summarizes the response provided by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 4007, addressed on August 18, 2025, concerning the utilization of the National Youth Development Fund (NYDF) for sports infrastructure.
The NYDF, established in 2015 under the National Young Leaders Programme, had the objective to construct and maintain infrastructure for development and empowerment of youth. However, the Minister clarified that no funds were released from the NYDF for building or maintaining sports infrastructure, as it was not within the fund's mandate. The NYDF was discontinued in 2021, and the remaining balance was deposited into the Consolidated Fund of India.
Specifically, the response indicates the following:
* No funds from the NYDF were used to build or maintain sports infrastructure at the State/UT level.
* The NYDF was not designed to provide direct benefits to sportspersons; therefore, no sportspersons received benefits under the fund, and no data on beneficiaries categorized by gender or disability exists.
* No funds were allocated from the NYDF to colleges or sports centers for sports-related Research and Development (R&D).
* No review or study was conducted to assess the success of the fund in relation to sports outcomes, as the NYDF was not sports-focused.
* Since the fund was discontinued in 2021, the question of Members of Parliament recommending sportspersons for availing the fund is not applicable.
In conclusion, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports clarified that the NYDF, despite its broader objectives, was not utilized for sports infrastructure development, direct support to sportspersons, or sports-related research and development. The fund was discontinued in 2021, and no reviews were conducted on sports-related outcomes.
