GOVERNMENTOFINDIA MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE DEPARTMENTOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE RAJYASABHA UNSTARREDQUESTION NO. 2058 TO BE ANSWERED ON10/03/2026 VACANTPOSTSOFDOCTORS ANDPARAMEDICALSTAFFATAIIMS 2058#SHRIRAMJI LALSUMAN: Will the Minister of HEALTHANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased tostate: (a)whether vacanciesof doctorsand paramedicalstaffat the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) across the country iscausing patientstoface prolongedwaitingperiods for treatmentandsurgeries; (b) whether the Ministry hasanydata indicating thatpatientswith longwaitingperiodsdid not undergo surgeryonthe scheduled date andwere compelled toget treatedat private hospitals; and (c)the numberof kidney, liverandcardiacsurgeries conductedannuallyat AIIMS during the last five years, the details thereofyear-wise? ANSWER THE MINISTEROFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRIPRATAPRAO JADHAV) (a) to (c): “Public Health and Sanitation, Hospitals and Dispensaries” is a State subject and the primary responsibility of strengthening the medical infrastructure lies with the respective State Governments. Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) aims to correct regional imbalances in the availability of affordable/ reliable tertiary healthcare services and also to augment facilities for quality medical educationin the country. Creationof posts and recruitment is a continuous process. Filling up of vacant faculty (doctors) and non-faculty positions is contingent on various factors including availability of suitable/ eligible/ qualified doctors/ health professionals, reservation roster, locationof the institute etc. Waiting list of patients in AIIMS is prepared duly considering the patient’s condition, urgency of treatment required and bed availability. Various kinds of major and minor surgeries related to kidney, liver and cardiac are conducted by Specialty/ Superspecialty Departments depending uponthe nature,manifestation andcomplexityof the medicalcondition of the patients. *****
