Parliament Question: Vaccine Manufacturers and use of Domestic HPV Vaccines

BACHHAVSHOBHADINESH: Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE be pleasedtostate: (a) the details of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines programme approved and the age cohortstargeted underthe programme; (b) the names of vaccine manufacturers whose products are being procured or used, including details of any domestically produced HPV vaccines such as those developed with participation of Indiancompanies; (c) whether any international organisations, partners or foundations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Gavi or WHO have provided technical support, funding or collaboration in the planning, introduction or implementation of the HPV vaccination programmes, if so, the details thereof; (d) whether the Government is aware of any judicial inquiries, regulatory investigations, parliamentaryprobesor civil litigationconductedanywhere inthe world concerning HPVvaccines or theirmanufacturersandif so,the detailsandthe outcomesthereof; and (e) the current coverage achieved, programme targets and timelines for achieving nationwide vaccinationgoalsagainst cervicalcancer? ANSWER THE MINISTEROFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE (SMT.ANUPRIYAPATEL) (a) to (e) The Nationwide free HPV vaccination campaign was launched on 28th February 2026 for approximately1.2croreeligiblebeneficiarygirlsaged14yearsacrossall36StatesandUnionTerritories.The vaccine is administered free of cost at government health facilities, including Ayushman Arogya Mandirs- Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs), Sub-District Hospitals (SDH)/District Hospitals (DHs) & Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in presence of medical officer. Training of medicalandparamedicalstaffacrossall36States/UTsinthecountryhasbeencompleted.HPVvaccinationis voluntaryandparentalconsent ismandatorybeforeadministrationofvaccine. TheVaccinemanufacturedby Merck Sharp Dhome (MSD) has been secured as kind support from GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance. The 72nd Parliamentary Standing Committee covers various issues concerning HPV vaccine related matters. As on 24thMarch2026,atotalof5,03,008girlshavebeenadministeredtheHPVvaccine. *******
