Parliament Question: Work Orders for JJM in Sikar and Jhunjhunu Districts

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF JAL SHAKTI DEPARTMENT OF DRINKING WATER & SANITATION LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. †2039 ANSWERED ON 30/07/2026 WORK ORDERS FOR JJM IN SIKAR AND JHUNJHUNU DISTRICTS †2039. SHRI AMRA RAM: Will the Minister of Jal Shakti be pleased to state: (a) the time by which the work orders under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) for Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts are likely to be issued and the time by which the said works are likely to be completed; and (b) the details of the approvals accorded so far under JJM in Sikar district, the expected date of completion of the works, the number of works completed and the number of works remaining incomplete as on date along with the time by which the incomplete works are likely to be completed? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR JAL SHAKTI (SHRI V. SOMANNA) (a) & (b) ‘Drinking Water’ is a state subject, and hence, the responsibility of planning, approval, implementation, operation and maintenance (O&M) of drinking water supply schemes, including those under the JJM, lies with State/UT Governments. The Government of India supports the states including Rajasthan by providing technical and financial assistance. To make provision of tap water supply to every rural household across the country, including those in Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts of Rajasthan, Government of India, in partnership with States, has been implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), since August 2019. At the time of announcement of JJM, around 43,600 (11.4%) rural households were reported to have tap water connections in Sikar district. So far, as reported by State as on 18.07.2026, around 2.10 lakh additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections. Thus, as on 18.07.2026, out of 3.83 lakh rural households, in the district, around 2.53 lakh (66%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes. Similarly, at the start of the Mission, around 60,000 (17.2%) rural households were reported to have tap water connections in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. So far, as reported by the State as on 18.07.2026, around 1.29 lakh additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections under JJM. Thus, as on 18.07.2026, out of 3.47 lakh rural households in the district, around 1.89 lakh (54.3%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes. As Water is a State subject, project-wise details, inter alia including issuance of work orders of individual projects for rural water supply are maintained at the level of State Government. Government has approved the extension of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) period up to December 2028 with enhanced outlay and restructured implementation focusing on structural reforms in rural drinking water supply sector under JJM 2.0. *****
