Parliament Question: Youths Benefited through PMIS in Karnataka

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2482 ANSWERED ON MONDAY THE 04TH AUGUST, 2025 SRAVANA 13, 1947 (SAKA) YOUTHS BENEFITED THROUGH PMIS IN KARNATAKA QUESTION 2482. Shri P C Mohan: Will the Minister of CORPORATE AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the objectives and key components of the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) launched to enhance employability and skills among youth; (b) the number of interns who have been benefited under this Scheme in Karnataka, with specific data for Bengaluru Urban district, since its inception; (c) the sectors and institutions in Bengaluru that have partnered under the Scheme to offer internship opportunities; (d) whether there is any specific targets or incentives for expanding internship opportunities in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green energy and digital services in Bengaluru; (e) whether the Government has collaborated with Start-ups, MSMEs and Research Institutions in Karnataka to broaden internship placements and if so, the details thereof; and (f) the support mechanisms put in place to ensure stipend, mentorship and job placement for interns in the region? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS AND MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS [SHRI HARSH MALHOTRA] (a): The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) announced in the Budget 2024- 25, aims to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in top 500 companies in five years. As an initiation to this Scheme, Ministry of Corporate Affairs has launched a Pilot Project of the Scheme on 3rd October, 2024, which is targeted to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in one year. Guidelines of the PMIS Pilot Project is available at https://pminternship.mca.gov.in. Under the PMIS Pilot Project, the company is expected to provide the person an actual working experience on a skill in which the company is directly involved. It provides an opportunity to the youth to get training and gain experience and skills within the real-life environment of various businesses or organizations with the objective of enhancing their employability by bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. (b): In the round I of the pilot project, which commenced from 3rd October, 2024, more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities were posted by the partnercompanies across the country. In the round II of the pilot project, which commenced on 9th January, 2025, the partner companies have posted over 1.18 lakh internship opportunities (new and edited unfilled opportunities of previous round) across the country. Details of the internship opportunities posted by the companies, in Karnataka and Bengaluru Urban district, and offers made to the candidates from the state of Karnataka and Bengaluru Urban district, in Round I and Round II is placed at Annexure I. (c) & (d): In Round I and Round II of the Pilot Project, over 110 companies have posted internship opportunities in Bengaluru Urban district. List of the partner companies covers a large number of diverse sectors like Aviation and Defence, Automotive, Banking and Financial Services, Chemical Industry, Consulting services, IT and Software Development, Healthcare, Infrastructure and Construction, Metals and mining, Oil, Gas and Energy and roles in different areas such as sales, accounting, supply chain management, process associate, manufacturing associate and plant operation etc. Further, to promote internships in emerging sectors, pilot project guidelines have a provision that any company/ bank/ financial institution desirous of participating in the Scheme may approach the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), which would take a view keeping in view under represented sectors. (e): Participation of the companies in the scheme is voluntary. The guidelines provide that in case the partner company cannot directly provide internship opportunities, it may tie-up with companies in its forward and backward supply chain (e.g. suppliers/ customers/ vendors) or other companies/institutions in its group; or otherwise, which may include Start-ups, MSMEs and Research Institutions. Further, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs is actively working with various stakeholders such as state governments, central government ministries including Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and industry associations for promotion and implementation of the scheme. (f): Under the pilot project, a one-time grant for incidentals of Rs.6,000/- is disbursed to the interns by the Government. In addition, monthly assistance is paid to the interns, with Rs. 4,500/- per month provided by the Government and Rs.500 per month by the Company, from its CSR funds. Expenditure associated with the training of interns is borne by the company from its CSR funds, as per the extant rules. In case any Company wishes to provide monthly assistance over and above Rs.500, it may do so from its own funds. A robust grievance redressal mechanism has been established, including a dedicated call center, to address the concerns and issues faced by stakeholders to ensure timely resolution and enhance overall satisfaction of the users. The PMIS pilot project is not a scheme to provide employment. It provides an opportunity to the youths to get training, gain experience and skills within the real-life environment of the businesses or organizations that helps in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, in turn, assisting enhancement of her/his employability.Annexure Annexure to the Lok Sabha Unstarred Question no. 2482 part (b) to be answered on 04.08.2025.
