Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

This policy document outlines the Ministry of Tourism's PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) and Swadesh Darshan schemes. **PRASAD Scheme:** This scheme provides financial assistance to State Governments and Union Territory Administrations for tourism infrastructure development at identified religious and heritage sites. Since its launch, 54 projects have been sanctioned in 28 States/UTs. Project implementation is the responsibility of the respective State/UT government. Delays are attributed to factors such as tendering processes, limited agency capacity, planning issues, and document submission. The Ministry monitors project progress and encourages timely completion. **Swadesh Darshan Scheme:** Under this scheme, 76 projects were sanctioned for Rs. 5290.30 Crore under identified thematic circuits. The scheme was revamped as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations, with 52 projects sanctioned for Rs. 2108.87 Crore. Project selection considers scheme guidelines, state/UT consultations, regional/cultural diversity, future tourism potential, connectivity, and alignment with sustainable tourism. The original Swadesh Darshan scheme included thematic circuits such as Rural, Himalayan, Tribal, Ecotourism, Wildlife, Coastal, and Northeast. **Other Initiatives:** The Ministry of Tourism launched the "Dekho Apna Desh" initiative in January 2020 to promote domestic tourism through webinars, quizzes, seminars, promotional events, and social media. The Capacity Building for Service Providers (CBSP) scheme aims to provide education, training, and certification to tourism service providers, including small tour operators, local artisans, and homestay providers. **Data Points:** * **PRASAD:** 54 projects sanctioned in 28 States/UTs. * **Swadesh Darshan:** 76 projects sanctioned for Rs. 5290.30 Crore. * **Swadesh Darshan 2.0:** 52 projects sanctioned for Rs. 2108.87 Crore. **Contact Information:** Sunil Kumar Tiwari, tourism4pib[at]gmail[dot]com.

The projects sanctioned under the said scheme are implemented by the State/UT Government concerned. The delay in the completion of projects under the PRASHAD scheme arise from various factors such as delays in the tendering process, limited capacity of the State Implementing Agency, untimely project planning and design, and non-submission of requisite documents. However, the Ministry of Tourism regularly monitors the progress of project and also encourages respective State Government/ UT Administrations/ Central Agencies to complete the projects in a time bound manner. The Ministry of Tourism under Swadesh Darshan scheme sanctioned 76 projects under identified thematic circuits for Rs.5290.30 Crore.
