Ministry of Tourism Projects Under SDS and Prashad Schemes प्रव तथ: 01 DEC 2025 3:39PM by PIB Delhi The Ministry of Tourism through its ongoing schemes of ‘Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)’ and Swadesh Darshan, complements the efforts of the State Governments (SGs)/UT Administrations (UTs) by extending financial assistance to them for developing tourism related infrastructure in the country, including the State Government of Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Since the launch of the PRASHAD Scheme launch in January 2015, the Ministry has sanctioned 54 projects in 28 States/UTs with an estimated cost of ₹1726.74 Crore. Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, the Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned a total number of 76 projects under different thematic circuits in the country for a total sanctioned cost of ₹5290.30 Crore. The Swadesh Darshan scheme has been revamped as ‘Swadesh Darshan 2.0’ (SD 2.0) with the objective to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations. Till date, 53 projects have been sanctioned by the Ministry under SD 2.0 at a total sanctioned cost of ₹2,208.27 Crore. The details of the projects under PRASHAD, Swadesh Darshan Scheme and Swadesh Darshan 2.0, are given in the Annexure-I. Under the PRASHAD Scheme, infrastructure development is undertaken in an inclusive, integrated and sustainable manner that focuses on livelihoods, skills, cleanliness, security, accessibility, and service delivery. The scheme contributes to employment generation while also enhancing awareness and fostering skill and capacity development of the local communities. The Ministry of Tourism has put in place the Scheme of “Capacity Building for Service Providers” (CBSP) which provides education, training and certification to the tourism service providers and hospitality sector including women & youth, to upgrade manpower at every strata of the tourism industry in order to capitalise the vast tourism potential of the country to the fullest and provide professional expertise to the local populace as well as create fresh opportunities in the tourism sector both in urban as well as rural areas. Under the PRASHAD Scheme, the Ministry of Tourism has developed tourism infrastructure for improving tourist amenities and tourist experience at pilgrimage sites. Some of the components/ interventions approved under the PRASHAD Scheme aimed at improving/ integrating tourism, transport and sanitation facilities includes upgradation of tourist arrival areas with Tourist Facilitation Centres, parking; provision of basic amenities like waiting halls and cloakrooms and development of utility infrastructure such as solid waste management, bio-toilets, drinking water facilities, improved drainage networks, dustbins and pious waste management facilities, landscaping and beautification, etc.In addition, to improve connectivity and accessibility to the site, several components have been sanctioned including approach road development, road widening and beautification, development of destination entry points, ramps, railings, dedicated wheelchair-accessible facilities, provisions for e-vehicles and lifts, etc. Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, out of 76 sanctioned projects, 75 projects have been physically completed and under the PRASHAD Scheme, out of 54 sanctioned projects, 32 projects have been physically completed. The details are provided in the Annexure-II. As per the Report on Evaluation of Central Sector Scheme PRASHAD by IIM Rohtak in the year 2021, the Scheme has helped in increasing the visitor satisfaction, ease of travel and aesthetical aspects of the selected heritage sites. Also, the report mentioned that the Scheme has led to increase in the positive overall visitor user experience. Receiving proposals from the State Governments/UT Administrations for financial assistance for tourism projects is a continuous process. The proposals received are examined with reference to the prescribed guidelines and financial assistance is extended for such projects subject to fulfilment of the stipulated conditions and availability of funds. However, the Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned various projects in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, the list of which is given in the Annexure-III.
