ORDER:
In the letter read above, the Chief Engineer (R&B) CRN &
Managing Director, Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation,
Hyderabad, has stated that Elkathurthy – Siddipet Road is an
important MDR connecting two important State Highways i.e.,
Hyderabad – Karimnagar – Ramagundam Road and Rayapatnam –
Kodad Road. The total length of the road is 46 km out of which the
stretch from km. 21/0 to 22/4 & from km 23/9 to 65/4 is double lane
road. The stretch from km 19/4 to 21/0 and from 22/4 to 23/9 is
single lane road necessitating the road widening in this reach. The
existing road width is 3.66 m and the crust is 400 mm. The existing
formation width is 7 m and is proposed to be widened to 10m. The
proposed stretch is renewed during 1996/97. The traffic intensity on
the road is 8264 PCU’s per day.
2. The Chief Engineer (R&B) CRN & Managing Director, Andhra
Pradesh Road Development Corporation, has also stated that as per
the IRC 64 -1990 guidelines for capacity roads in Rural areas, the
recommended design service volume for single lane road in plain
terrain with low degree of curvature (i.e., 0-50 degrees per kilometer)
is 2000 PCU’s per day, where as the recommended design service
volume for Intermediate lane road in plain terrain with low degree of
Curvature is 6000 PCU’s per day. As the traffic intensity on the above
road i.e., 8264 PCU’s per day is greater than the design service
volume for Intermediate lane road, the above road requires to be to
be widened to two-lanes.
3. The Chief Engineer (R&B) CRN & Managing Director, Andhra
Pradesh Road Development Corporation, Hyderabad, has therefore
requested the Government to accord permission for “widening and
strengthening of Elkathurthy – Siddipet Road from km. 19/4 to 21/0
and from 22/4 to 23/9 in Karimnagar District” for administrative
sanction of Rs. 200.00 lakhs(two hundred lakhs only) under any
relevant head of account of Corenet roads by providing of funds.
