HIGHER EDUCATION (TE.I) DEPARTMENT G.O.Rt.No. 90 Dt. 2-3-2012 Read From the CTE, Hyderabad, Lr.No.K3/DRRAG/RAJAHMUNDRY/2012, Dt.16.2.2012 ***** O R D E R: In the reference read above the Commissioner of Technical Education has stated that the Government vide G.O.Ms.No.1992, Dt.10.8.1966 have issued orders to the then Director of Technical Education to take over the Damerla Rama Rao Memorial Art Gallery & School, Rajahmundry. Government further in G.O.Rt.No.1599, Education Department, Dt.23.8.1968 have allotted budget and sanctioned posts on temporary basis to man and maintain the said Art Gallery. Accordingly the said Art Gallery was taken over by the Director of Technical Education in May, 1970. In the year 1980, the Director of Technical Education was further directed to take over the Damerla Rama Rao Memorial School of Arts along with buildings, furniture and equipment vide G.O.Ms.No.37, LEN (TE) Deptt., Dt. 23.1.1980. In the year 1987 the administrative control of the said school of Arts was transferred to the Principal, Dr. BRAGMR Polytechnic by the Director of Technical Education, Hyderabad. Since then the said Art Gallery & School are under the control of Technical Education Department. 2. The Commissioner of Technical Education has further informed that the property of the Damerla Rama Rao Memorial Art Gallery is located in an area of 1936 sq. yards. The paintings are housed in two separate buildings and the said buildings require minor repairs including colour wash, whitewash for a face lift etc. There are 1112 paintings in the said Art Gallery which are nearly 80 years old. The paper used for paintings is turning brown and brittle and part of canvas is tearing off in few paintings. The paintings are showing the sign of aging and a few of the water colored painting have deteriorated noticeably and need professional treatment for restoration. 3. Government after careful examination of the proposal hereby constitute a Committee to look into the maintenance aspect of the Art Gallery and suggest remedial measures. The following will be the members of the said Committee: 1. Regional Joint Director of Technical Education, Kakinada 2. An expert in the field (to be nominated by Director, Salar Jung Musuem, Hyd.) 3. One senior officer from Department of Culture (to be nominated by Director of Culture) 4. The Committee shall submit its report to the Government within one month. 5. The CTE, AP, Hyderabad shall take further necessary action in the matter.
