(ii) Caraway (Carum carvi L) and Black Caraway (Carum bulbocastanum Koch) Grading and Marking Rules, 2000; and (iii) Ajowan Seeds (Whole and Powdered) Grading and Marking Rules,1997 except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, is hereby published, as required by the said section for information of all persons likely to be affected thereby; and notice is hereby given that the said draft rules shall be taken into consideration after the expiry of a period of forty-five days from the date on which copies of the Gazette containing this notification are made available to the public; (4) It shall comply with the residual limits of heavy metals, pesticides and other food safety requirements as laid down by the Codex Alimentarius Commission, or importing countries requirement for exports. (5) The condition of the Ajowain seed shall be such so as to enable it - (a) to withstand transport and handling; and (b) to arrive in satisfactory condition at the place of destination. (6) It shall be stored in a cool and dry place; maintained in a clean and hygienic condition. Explanations: (a) Organic extraneous matter includes chaff, stems and straw. (b) Inorganic extraneous matter includes dust, dirt, stones and lumps of earth. (c) Shrivelled seeds: that have not properly developed. (d) Insect damaged seeds: Seeds that are partially or wholly bored or eaten away by weevil or other insects. (e) Damaged and broken seeds: Seeds that are cut, broken, damaged and discoloured. Note: Volatile Oil shall be determined immediately after grinding. (2) It shall - (a) have characteristic taste and aroma of the produce; (b) be free from off-flavour, rancid taste and musty odour; (c) be free from added colouring matter, preservative and foreign starch; (d) be free from dirt, mould growth and insect infestation; (e) be free from any foreign matter. (3) It shall comply with the restrictions in regard to residual levels of metal contaminants, insecticides and pesticides residues, microbial requirements, crop contaminants, naturally occurring toxic substances and other food safety requirements as specified under the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011 and Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 and various regulations covered under Food Safety & Standards Act-2006 for domestic trade.
