The Ministry of Cooperation commemorated the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025, themed "Cooperatives Build a Better World," with initiatives launched following the ICA Global Cooperative Conference in 2024. A comprehensive Annual Action Plan for IYC, developed with cooperative sector stakeholders, was released on January 24, 2025. Implementation was facilitated through the IYCNational Cooperative Committee, IYCNational Execution Committee, IYCState Apex Committees, State Cooperative Development Committees and District Cooperative Development Committees.
Awareness activities included displaying the IYC logo on Indian Railways tickets, government websites, cooperative product packaging (e.g., Amul milk), and during the Women's Premier League 2025 broadcasts. National Federations and States/UTs organized various activities, including the foundation stone laying of 25 PACS godowns (62,500 metric tons capacity) in Bihar. Madhya Pradesh held a state-level conference in April. The Golden Jubilee celebration of IFFCO's Kalol branch in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, included laying the foundation stone of the Beej Anusandhan Kendra.
A National Conference of State Cooperation Ministers was held on June 30, 2025, in New Delhi. The foundation stone for the country's first cooperative university, Tribhuvan Sahkari University, was laid on July 5, 2025, in Anand, Gujarat. A national event was held on July 6, 2025, for the Ministry of Cooperation's 4th Foundation Day.
A nationwide plantation drive ("Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam") saw participation from States/UTs and cooperative federations; over 25 States/UTs submitted action plans. Additional initiatives included capacity building, walkathons, cyclothons, "Swachhta me Sahkar" cleanliness drives, cooperative exhibitions, and youth/women engagement programs. A special edition of Kurukshetra magazine was published in July 2025 to highlight cooperative sector achievements.
States/UTs reported activities (Annexure A), including IYC 2025 logo inaugurations, computerization training for PACS, Swachhata Seva programs, awareness programs, tree plantations, seminars on PACS computerization, IYC calendar poster launches, Yoga Day activities, computer distribution to DRCSARCS, coordination meetings, and capacity building on accounts/audit. Ceremonial distribution of Micro ATMs and registration certificates to newly registered cooperatives also occurred. Special campaigns for women cooperative members were held on International Women's Day, and best Cooperative Societies were awarded under the Mukhymantri Adarsh PACS Protsahan Yojana.
Efforts are underway to develop Benchmarking Criteria and a Business Reform Action Plan for the Cooperative Sector for 2026 onwards. A consolidated annual report will be prepared at year-end.

The Ministry of Cooperation has undertaken a range of special initiatives and events to
commemorate the United Nations-International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) – 2025 with the
theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World”, which was officially launched by the Hon’ble
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the ICA Global Cooperative Conference held in 2024.
This year highlights the vital role of cooperatives in promoting inclusive, participatory, and
sustainable development in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs).
To mark the IYC 2025, the Ministry prepared a comprehensive Annual Action Plan for IYC in
collaboration with all the stakeholders of the Cooperative Sector which was released by
Hon’ble Home and Cooperation Minister on 24th January 2025 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. For
coordinated planning and implementation, the Ministry constituted IYC-National
Cooperative Committee, IYC-National Execution Committee, and IYC-State Apex
Committees. Further, actions for IYC were also included in Terms of References of the State
Cooperative Development Committees and District Cooperative Development Committees.
Extensive awareness and outreach activities have been carried out across the country. The IYC logo has been
prominently displayed on Indian Railways electronic tickets, official websites and correspondence of Central
Ministries/Departments/PSUs, and on cooperative product packaging — including daily milk packets by
Amul. The logo was also showcased during all matches of the Women’s Premier League 2025, broadcast
across nine channels of Star Sports and Jio Hotstar.
Various major activities were organized by National Federations and States/UTs. Foundation stone of 25
PACS godowns with storage capacity of 62,500 metric tons in Bihar by Hon'ble Union Home and
Cooperation Minister. Madhya Pradesh organized a state level conference in April under the chairmanship of
the Hon’ble Home and Cooperation Minister. Union Home and Cooperation Minister chaired the Golden
Jubilee celebration of IFFCO's Kalol branch in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and laid the foundation stone of the
Beej Anusandhan Kendra.
A key initiative at the national level was the successful organization of the National
Conference of State Cooperation Ministers on 30th June 2025 under the chairmanship of
Hon’ble Home and Cooperation Minister, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The foundation
stone of country’s first cooperative university, “Tribhuvan Sahkari University” was laid by
Hon’ble Home and Cooperation Minister on 05.07.2025 at Anand, Gujarat. A national event

Cooperation.
A dedicated plantation drive under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign during IYC is
being undertaken with active participation of all the States/UTs, National Cooperative
Federations and other cooperative stakeholders. More than 25 States/UTs have sent
their action plan for this plantation drive under IYC-2025.
Further, initiatives such as the capacity building and awareness generation,
walkathons, cyclothons, cleanliness drives under “Swachhta me Sahkar” campaign,
cooperative exhibitions, and youth and women engagement programs have been
organised nationwide. A special edition of Kurukshetra magazine has been publishedin July 2025 to commemorate IYC and to highlight cooperative sector achievements.
The details of major activities undertaken and reported by States/UTs to the Ministry
under celebration of IYC-2025 are given in as Annexure-A. During the remainder of
the year, various similar events and activities would be organized by the States/UTs
under IYC–2025.
Efforts are being undertaken for developing Benchmarking Criteria for Cooperative Sector.
Efforts are also being made for preparation of Business Reform Action Plan for Cooperative
Sector for year 2026 onwards. A consolidated annual report on the activities carried out
throughout the year by all the stakeholders is proposed to be prepared at the end of the year.
