**Policy Summary: Ayushman Arogya Mandir Initiative (as of July 15, 2025)**
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reports that 178,154 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs), formerly Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs), are operational across India. These AAMs strengthen Sub Health Centres (SHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services encompassing preventive, promotive, rehabilitative, and curative care. The AAMs offer an expanded range of services, including management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, reproductive and child healthcare, and other health issues. Each AAM is equipped with upgraded infrastructure, additional human resources, essential drugs, diagnostics, and IT systems to deliver twelve packages of primary health care services.
A key component is the Free Diagnostics Service Initiative (FDSI) under the National Health Mission (NHM), launched in 2015, to provide accessible and affordable pathological and radiological diagnostics services. This initiative offers a range of diagnostics free of cost at public health facilities, including 14 tests at Sub Centres and 63 at Primary Health Centres.
Wellness-related activities, such as Yoga, cycling, and meditation, are conducted in AAMs to promote preventive healthcare. As of June 30, 2025, over 57.3 million wellness sessions have been conducted at AAMs.
The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) supports the initiative by creating an online platform for interoperable health data, aiming to establish longitudinal electronic health records (EHRs) for every citizen. This aims to improve healthcare accessibility, reduce costs, and enhance efficiencies across public and private healthcare institutions. To date, 797.5 million Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs have been created, and 653.4 million Electronic Health Records (EHRs) have been linked across various health portals.
The estimated cost for establishing and maintaining an AAM is approximately Rs. 17.03 lakhs, including one-time and recurring annual costs. The total budget for the establishment and maintenance of the AAMs under NHM is approved under NHM Record of Proceedings (ROP) as per the Program Implementation Plan (PIP) submitted by the States/UTs.

As reported by States/UTs on AAM portal, a total of 1,78,154 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) [erstwhile
Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs)] have been operationalized in India, till15.07.2025.
Through Ayushman Arogya Mandir, comprehensive primary healthcare is provided by strengthening Sub
Health Centres (SHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). These AAMs provide preventive, promotive,
rehabilitative and curative care for an expanded range of services encompassing Communicable diseases,
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), reproductive and child healthcare services and other health issues.
AAMs are equipped with the required resources including upgraded infrastructure, additional human resource,
essential drugs & diagnostics, IT systems, etc. to provide twelve packages of primary health care services.
The primary health care team at AAMs are trained to deliver comprehensive primary health care services
closer to the homes of people.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has launched the ‘Free Diagnostics Service

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) aims to create an online platform enabling interoperability of
health data within the health ecosystem to create longitudinal electronic health record of every citizen, make
healthcare accessible for citizens including reducing the cost of care and enabling greater efficiencies in health
service delivery between public and private Health care institutions. The digital health ecosystem created by
ABDM supports continuity of care across primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare in a seamless manner.
