The analysis is based solely on the information contained within the provided text of the notification. **3. Policy Overview:** This notification is an amendment, extending a previously established policy. * **Core Objective(s):** Based on the text, the primary objective is to maintain the designation of specific industrial undertakings as "public utility services" under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947. This likely aims to ensure the uninterrupted operation of these services considered essential to the public interest. **4. Background and Rationale:** This notification extends a previously existing declaration. The text indicates that the Central Government believes "public interest requires the extension of the Public Utility Service status to the said industry for a period of six months." This suggests that the government perceives a continued need for the specific protections and regulations afforded to public utility services within these industrial undertakings. This likely relates to maintaining stability and preventing disruptions in these crucial areas. **5. Key Provisions / Changes:** This is an amendment to *extend* an existing policy. The *specific* change introduced by this notification is: * **What specific part of the original policy is being changed:** The duration of the "public utility service" designation for the listed industrial undertakings. * **What the new rule/provision is:** The declaration is extended for "a further period of six months with effect from the 30th January, 2021." * **Explain the difference or the effect of this specific change:** The original policy (S.O. 2504E, dated 29th July, 2020) declared the industry as a public utility service for six months, expiring on January 30, 2021. The continued "public utility service" designation may have implications for labor relations, potentially limiting the ability of workers to strike or engage in other forms of industrial action. This helps ensure the uninterrupted production of essential items like currency, security documents, and government mint products. **9. Conclusion:** The notification analyzed in this report extends the "public utility service" designation for several key industrial undertakings under the Ministry of Finance for another six months. This extension is intended to ensure the continued smooth operation of these essential services by maintaining the labor regulations and protections associated with this designation. The notification reflects the government's continued focus on ensuring stability and preventing disruptions in these critical sectors.
