**Executive Summary** This notification issued by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on April 8, 2026, prohibits specific classes of slow-moving vehicles from using the elevated section of the Delhi-Saharanpur National Highway (NH-709B), Phase-I. The restriction covers the stretch from Km 5+190 to Km 31+600 to ensure safety on this high-speed, six-lane access-controlled corridor. Affected commuters must utilize existing service roads and alternative routes. **Key Points / Main Content** **Highway Scope and Development** * The Delhi-Saharanpur National Highway, Phase-I, extends from Akshardham (Km 0.000) in Delhi to the EPE Crossing near Khekra (Km 31.600). * The corridor connects key areas including Laxmi Nagar, Geeta Colony, Biharipur, Ankur Vihar, Tronica City, and Mandaula. * The route has been developed as a six-lane access-controlled highway designed for high-speed traffic with specific speed limits. **Vehicle Prohibitions** * Under Section 35 of "The Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002," certain vehicles are prohibited from the elevated section (Km 5+190 to Km 31+600). * Prohibited vehicles include: * Motorcycles, scooters, and other two-wheelers. * Three-wheelers, including e-Carts and e-Rickshaws. * Non-motorized vehicles. * Agricultural tractors (with or without trailers). * Multi-axle hydraulic trailer vehicles. * Quadri-cycles. **Safety Rationale** * The movement of slow-moving vehicles alongside high-speed traffic poses significant safety risks due to speed differentials. * The prohibition is intended to prevent accidents and maintain the integrity of the high-speed corridor. * Alternative infrastructure, such as service roads and secondary routes, is already available for the prohibited vehicle classes. **Impact Analysis** **Operators of Two-Wheelers, Three-Wheelers, and Agricultural Vehicles** **Impact** These users are restricted from accessing the main elevated high-speed carriageway between Km 5+190 and Km 31+600 of NH-709B. **Action Required** Drivers of these vehicle classes must use the provided service roads or alternative local routes to reach their destinations. **National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) / Highway Administration** **Impact** The authority is responsible for enforcing these traffic restrictions to maintain safety standards on the newly developed corridor. **Action Required** The administration must ensure the notification is implemented and that traffic is regulated according to the provisions of the Land and Traffic Act, 2002.
