NOTIFICATIONS BY GOVERNMENT LAW DEPARTMENT AMENDMENT TO THE SPECIAL RULES FOR THE TAMIL NADU GENERAL SERVICE [G.O.Ms. No.181, Law (OP-III), 11th June 2025, வைைகாாசி 28, விசுைாைசு, திருைள்ளுைர் ஆண்டு-2056.] No. SRO B-21(a-1)/2025 In exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to Article 309 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby makes the following amendment to the Special Rules for the Tamil Nadu General Service (Section 16 in Volume Il of the Tamil Nadu Services Manual, 2016). (2) The amendment hereby made except amendment to rule 3(a) shall be deemed to have come into force on and from the 11th February 2014. (3) The amendment hereby made relating to clause (a) of rule 3 shall be deemed to have come into force on the 13th day of September 2021. Amendment. In the said Special Rules, for rules 2 and 3, the following rules shall be substituted, namely:- “2.Appointment.- Appointment to the post in the categories specified in column (1) of the Table below shall be made by the methods specified in the corresponding entries in column (2) thereof :- [ 1 ] III-1(b)—Ex. (273)2 TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT GAZETTE EXTRAORDINARY Table Category Method of Appointment (1) (2) 1. Director (i) By promotion from among the holders of the post of (Tamil Translation) Assistant Director (Tamil Translation), OL(L)W; or (ii) By transfer from among the holders of the post of Deputy Secretary to Government in Law Department, if no qualified and suitable candidate is available for appointment by the method specified in item (i) above; or (iii) By promotion from among the holders of the post of Under Secretary to Government, Law Department, if no qualified and suitable candidate is available for appointment by the method specified in items (i) and (ii) above; or (iv) By direct recruitment for special reasons, if no qualified and suitable candidate is available for appointment by the methods specified in items (i) to (iii) above. 2. Assistant Director (i) By recruitment by transfer from among the holders of the (Tamil Translation) post of Translation Officer, OL(L)W in Law Department of the Tamil Nadu General Subordinate Service; or (ii) By transfer from among the holders of the post of Under Secretary to Government, Law Department, if no qualified and suitable candidate is available for appointment by the method specified in item (i) above; or (iii) By promotion from among the holders of the post of Section Officer, Law Department, if no qualified and suitable candidate is available for appointment by the method specified in items (i) and (ii) above; or (iv) By direct recruitment for special reasons, if no qualified and suitable candidates are available for appointment by the method specified in items (i) to (iii) above. 3. Qualifications.- (a) Age.- No person shall be eligible for appointment to the post of Director (Tamil Translation) and Assistant Director (Tamil Translation) by direct recruitment if he has completed thirty four years on the 1st July of the year in which the selection for appointment is made. (b) Other qualifications.- No person shall be eligible for appointment to the post in the category specified in column (1) of the Table below by the method of appointment specified in column (2), unless he possesses the qualifications specified in the corresponding entries in column (3) thereof:- Table Category Method of Appointment Qualifications (1) (2) (3) 1. Assistant Director (i) By recruitment by transfer Must have rendered service in the post (Tamil Translation) from among the holders of of Translation Officer, OL(L)W for a the post of Translation Officer, period of not less than two years. Reservation of appointments.—The principle of reservation of appointments contained in section 27 of the Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Conditions of Service) Act, 2016 (Tamil Nadu Act 14 of 2016) shall apply to appointment by direct recruitment to the post of Assistant Director (Tamil Translation).”.
