ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS
(SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI)(a) Localised instances of surface distress, pothole formations
and deficiency in drainage performance has been observed and
corrective action has been initiated to restore pavement integrity
and proper drainage functionality. The status of National Highway
(NH) – 12 between Jaguli to Murshidabad is as under:
(1) The stretch between Barasat to Krishnanagar passing
through Jaguli and Nadia having a length of 66.7 km has been
developed to 4-lane on Engineering Procurement Contract
(EPC) mode. The stretch is maintained by EPC Contractor in
traffic worthy condition under the Defect Liability Period (DLP)
as per the contract agreement. The Road under Bridge (RUB)
at Krishnanagar gets submerged during rainy season. However
arrangement has been made to drain out the water.
(2) The stretch from Krishnanagar to Baharampore with a
length of 67 km has been developed to 4-lane on Build-
Operate-Transfer (BOT) mode and is being maintained in traffic
worthy condition. The section between Beldanga to
Murshidabad falls in the above stretch. In addition, widening to
4-lane in 5.5 km in Murshidabad district including in Beldanga
is under progress with scheduled completion by July, 2026.
Further, Kapa More is on Kalyani Expressway, which is a State
Expressway and not maintained by Central Government.
(b) No accident data, due to poor condition of the stretch, is
separately available. However, in the stretch between Barasat to
Baharampore having a length of about 160 km, 209 accidents have
been reported during the current year.
(c) Pre-monsoon maintenance works, including pothole filling,
patch repairs and drain cleaning, were executed by the EPC
Contractor/Concessionaire.
(d) & (e) The repair and maintenance works fall within the scope
of the existing Contractor/Concessionaire as per the
Contract/Concessionaire Agreement and the stretch is being
maintained in traffic worthy condition accordingly.
