GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3334 ANSWERED ON 12TH MARCH, 2026 CONSTRUCTION OF FLYOVER ON NH-19, DURGAPUR 3334. SHRI AZAD KIRTI JHA: Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS सड़क परिवहन औि िाजमार्ग मंत्री be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware of the dangerous traffic congestion and frequent accidents at Old Court crossing on National Highway (NH)-19 Durgapur in West Bengal; (b) whether the Government has received any representations requesting the construction of a flyover at this location and if so, the current status of its approval and commencement of construction; (c) the measures being taken to expedite permissions to alleviate traffic and enhance safety for commuters and goods vehicles accessing the Durgapur Steel Plant; and (d) the expected timeline for completion and its anticipated impact on safety and traffic flow? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI) (a) & (b) Representations have been received from the public, District Authorities and public representatives. As a permanent rectification measure for the blackspot identified by the Government, construction of a Vehicular Underpass (VUP) at this location has been approved. The work will commence subject to encasing/shifting of the existing gas pipeline by Great Eastern Energy Corporation Limited (GEECL). (c) The matter regarding encasing/shifting of the existing gas pipeline is being pursued with GEECL on priority to facilitate early commencement of the work.(d) The expected timeline for completion of the work is 12 months from the date of commencement. Construction of the VUP will significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety by minimizing the risk of accidents at the location. *****
