Parliament Question: Data of Black Spots on National Highways

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3372 ANSWERED ON 12TH MARCH, 2026 DATA OF BLACK SPOTS ON NATIONAL HIGHWAYS 3372. ADV. ADOOR PRAKASH: Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS सड़क परिवहन औि िाजमार् ग मत्रं ी be pleased to state: (a) whether the Ministry has released the data of ‘black spots’ on National Highways using the Electronic Detailed Accident Report (e- DAR) and integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) system; (b) if so, the details thereof; and (c) the details of corrective measures taken to prevent accidents at such locations? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI) (a) to (c) Government notifies blackspots on the basis of the Road Accident Data received from States/ UTs. Further, rectification of black spots on National Highways (NHs) is a continuous process and temporary measures are taken on immediate basis. Out of total 16,542 blackspots identified on National Highways (NHs) in the country, short- term rectifications has been completed on 14,138 black spots such as road markings, signages, crash barriers, road studs, delineators, closure of unauthorized median openings, traffic calming measures, etc. Long-term rectification measures, as recommended by the road safety audit, are implemented only at locations deemed necessary. Accordingly, long-term measures have been completed at 6,649 black spots such as improvement of road geometrics, junction improvements, spot widening of carriageway, construction of underpasses/overpasses, etc., while 4,077 black spots have been assessed as not requiring long- term interventions. *****
