SHRI SUDHAKAR SINGH: Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware that the Gokul Reservoir located in Buxar district of Bihar, which is a major inland water body spreading over approximately 26 kilometres, holds immense potential for the development of rowing, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing and other water sports; (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) whether any feasibility study or proposal has been prepared by the Government for the formal commencement of water sports, training centres or the opening of a High-Performance Centre at Gokul Reservoir; (d) if so, the current status along with details of sanctioned budget and timeline for implementation thereof; (e) if not, whether the Government proposes to develop the Gokul Reservoir in Buxar as a hub for water sports under the Khelo India Scheme (KIS) or other Central schemes in the future; and (f) if so, the details thereof? Page 1 of 2ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS (DR MANSUKH MANDAVIYA) (a) to (d): “Sports” being a State subject, promotion and development of sports in a State/UT is the primary responsibility of the respective State/UT Governments. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports supplements their efforts through its following sports promotional schemes. (i) Khelo India; (ii) Assistance to National Sports Federations; (iii) Cash Incentive to Medal Winners in International sports events and their Coaches; (iv) National Sports Awards; (v) Sports Fund for Pension to Meritorious Sports Persons; (vi) Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program for Sportspersons; (vii) National Sports Development Fund; and (viii) Sports Promotional Schemes implemented through Sports Authority of India (SAI).
