On December 18, 2025, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways provided data in response to Unstarred Question No. 2999 in Lok Sabha, regarding the installation of unauthorized CNG kits. The question, posed by Smt. Mala Roy, sought information on the number of unauthorized CNG kits installed in private and commercial vehicles as of November 15, 2025, and the number of registered cases related to this issue, both state-wise.
Minister Nitin Jairam Gadkari clarified that the Ministry has data specifically on authorized CNG retrofitted vehicles in Transport and Non-Transport categories. The state/UT-wise number of these authorized vehicles, registered from January 1, 2024, to November 15, 2025, is available in the VAHAN portal and detailed in the attached table.
The data table indicates the total number of authorized CNG retrofitted vehicles is 348,953, with 29,083 in the Transport category and 319,870 in the Non-Transport category. The state with the highest number of authorized CNG retrofitted vehicles is Gujarat, with 153,815 vehicles, followed by Delhi with 27,293 vehicles. Jammu and Kashmir had the lowest, with 1 authorized vehicle.
