Parliament Question: Metro project in Gaya and Muzaffarpur cities

O.I.H. GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2597 ANSWERED ON 16/03/2026 METRO PROJECT IN GAYA AND MUZAFFARPUR CITIES 2597. DR. BHIM SINGH: Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether a metro project is being considered in Gaya and Muzaffarpur cities; and (b) if so, the details of the feasibility study and the timeline? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU) (a) & (b): ‘Urban planning’ is a State subject. Therefore, the respective State Governments are responsible for planning, initiating and developing Metro Projects. Central Government considers financial assistance to Metro Projects based on feasibility of the proposal and availability of resources, as and when posed by the concerned State Governments/UT Administrations. Presently, no Detailed Project Report of Metro Rail Projects for Gaya and Muzaffarpur cities have been submitted to Central Government by the Government of Bihar. *****
