SHRI ARVIND GANPAT SAWANT: SHRI SANJAY HARIBHAU JADHAV: Will the Minister of MINORITY AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the details of minority communities or minority institutions in the country, particularly in Maharashtra; State-wise (b) the criteria or conditions required for any community, group or institution to be declared as a minority community or minority institution; (c) the names of the communities or institutions that have been declared as minority communities or minority institutions in the country during the last ten years particularly in Maharashtra; (d) whether the Union Government has granted any financial assistance or approvals during this period, and if so, the details thereof, State-wise; (e) whether any anti-social or anti-national activities of such institutions have come to the notice of the Government; and (f) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government in this regard? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF MINORITY AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU) (a) & (b): The Government of India has notified six (6) communities i.e. Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis) and Jains as minority communities. The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI), a statutory body under the Ministry of Education, as per section 2(g) of the NCMEI Act, 2004, declares an institution as Minority Educational Institution if it is established and administered by a member / members of the six (06) religious minority community(s). As per records, the NCMEI has issued Minority Status Certificate to 14,270 Educational Institutions upto 15.12.2025. State-wise data is enclosed at Annexure - I. (c) & (d): NCMEI has issued Minority Status Certificate to 2709 educational institutions from 01.01.2016 to 15.12.2025 in the country out of which 33 belongs to the State of Maharashtra. List of the institutions in Maharashtra, which have been issued Minority Status Certificate by NCMEI, is enclosed at Annexure-II. The details of financial assistance or approvals granted to such institutions is not centrally maintained. (e) & (f): Any anti-social or anti-national activity is a matter related to law & order, which falls under the responsibilities of State/UT Governments.
