Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has taken any decision regarding the
request of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli (UT) and State Government of
Maharashtra to grant approval for organizing national sports event like
Khelo India and other international events;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has provided any financial assistance for
improving the sports infrastructure to organise the national and
international sports events in the said States/UT;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) and (b) Under the Khelo India Scheme, there is no pending request
from State of Maharashtra or UT of Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar
Haveli for organizing Khelo India Games.
However, the 2nd edition of Khelo India Youth Games was organised in
Pune, Maharashtra from 9th January to 20th January, 2019 with the
Page 1 of 2participation of more than 5000 athletes from 36 States/UTs in 18 Sports
Disciplines. Further, the 1st edition of Khelo India Beach Games was
organised in Diu, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli from 19th May
to 24th May, 2025 with the participation of more than 800 athletes from
36 States/UTs in 06 Competitive Sports Disciplines and 02 Demo Sports
Disciplines.
(c) to (e) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility of development
of sports, including providing financial assistance for improving sports
infrastructure to organise the national and international sports events,
rests primarily with the State/Union Territory Governments. The Union
Government supplements their efforts by bridging critical gaps.
However, the Khelo India Scheme and National Sports Development
Fund (NSDF), implemented by this Ministry, under which financial
assistance for development of sports infrastructure is provided are
demand-driven schemes. The details of the sports infrastructure projects
approved and their sanctioned cost, funds released and their physical
and financial progress, under Khelo India Scheme and NSDF, across the
country, including in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli &
Daman and Diu and the State Government of Maharashtra, are available
