In response to Unstarred Question No. 1720 for answer on 10.02.2026, regarding operational steel and ancillary plants in Jharsuguda district, the Minister of STEEL states that as per available information, there are 22 steel and ancillary plants in Jharsuguda district, Odisha in the year 2024-25 with approximately 1 million tonne (mt) sponge iron capacity, 0.87 mt crude steel capacity, 0.6 mt pellets capacity and 0.45 mt re-rolling capacity.
Steel is a deregulated sector and companies/units are responsible for following local regulations regarding environmental pollution, land acquisition, and compensation. Companies have individual CSR policies, favoring local areas, and CSR projects are identified based on local needs assessment and are implemented through direct execution or through implementing agencies. Monitoring mechanisms are in place for effective CSR project implementation in health, education, and livelihood sectors for affected communities.

Will the Minister of STEEL be pleased to state:
(a) the details and the number of Steel and ancillary plants operational in Jharsuguda
district along with their production capacity;
(b) whether environmental pollution, land acquisition disputes and displacement issues
related to Steel industries have been reported in the district, if so, the details thereof;
(c) the steps taken by the Government to ensure Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR) investment in health, education and livelihood for affected communities; and
(d) the details of the amount of CSR funds spent in Jharsuguda during the last five
years, year-wise?
