OUTCOME OF SMART CITIES MISSION
1816. SHRI HARSH VARDHAN SHRINGLA:
Will the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs be pleased to state:
(a) the current status of Smart Cities Mission projects;
(b) the proportion of projects completed and made operational;
(c) the improvements achieved in urban governance and service delivery; and
(d) the manner in which successful models are being replicated nationwide?
ANSWER

(a) & (b) Under Smart Cities Mission (SCM), as on 01.03.2026, a total 8,064 projects amounting
to ₹1,64,811 Cr were taken up since inception of the mission, out of which 7,784 worth
₹1,56,159 Cr have been completed. As reported by the States/ UTs as on 01.03.2026, a total of
280 projects amounting to ₹8,652 Cr are at implementation stage. With the closure of the SCM
on 31st March, 2025, there is no budgetary provision under the Mission to take any other city.
(c) Some of the key achievements of SCM observed in improving urban living standards, safety,
and public services inter-alia includes Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCC) at all
100 smart cities, 84,000 CCTV surveillance cameras, 1,884 emergency call boxes, more than
3,000 public address systems, more than 1,740 kms of smart roads, 713 kms of cycle tracks,
17,026 kms of water supply system being monitored through Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition (SCADA) system, more than 66 cities are managing Solid Waste Management
with increased usage of technology, around 9,194 vehicles have been Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) enabled for Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), more than 9,433 smart
classrooms and 41 Digital Libraries have been developed, 172 e-health centers and clinics
developed and 152 health ATMs have been installed.
(d) SCM has created replicable & sustainable models in the 100 smart cities which can act as
‘lighthouses’ for other aspiring cities of the country including ‘area based development’ and
smart cities solution (Pan city features) projects. Cities have planned, designed and
implemented project as per their local needs. Under SCM, 8,064 multisectoral projects
promoting sustainable urban development have been taken up. SCM has improved urban
infrastructure including, inter-alia, Water Sanitation & Hygiene, Smart Mobility (Non-
Motorized Transport, Public Bicycle Sharing, Smart Energy, Vibrant Public Spaces, Economic
& Social Infrastructure (Incubation & Skilling Centres, Smart Classrooms, & Digital
Libraries), Environment improvement (Integrated Solid Waste Management facility) and
Integrated Command & Control Centres for effective management of urban services by
harnessing the power of digital technology for data-driven governance and last mile service
delivery to its citizens.
