ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE (SHRI BHUPATHIRAJU SRINIVASA VARMA)
MINISTRY OF STEEL
(a)to(e): Steel is a deregulated sector, where decisions regarding capacity
enhancement of a steel plant or unit are taken by the respective CPSE, aligning with
the company’s long-term business strategy, modernization programs, investment
priorities, market dynamics, and techno-economic evaluations. National Steel Policy
(NSP), 2017 provides policy directions to the Government and the steel sector with
the objective of creating a technologically advanced and globally competitive industry
and supports economic growth.
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is implementing modernization and
expansion programs across its integrated steel plants in a phased manner with the
objective of improving efficiency, optimizing product mix, and enhancing production
capacity.
Bokaro Steel Plant has a crude steel production capacity of approximately 5.25
Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA). SAIL’s Board has approved a 2.65 MTPA
brownfield expansion of Bokaro Steel Plant.
