Parliament Question: Progress and execution of BSRP

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3410 ANSWERED ON 23/03/2026 PROGRESS AND EXECUTION OF BSRP 3410. SHRI IRANNA KADADI: Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the physical progress and timely execution of the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP) and ongoing Namma Metro phases; (b) whether proactive inter-agency coordination has successfully resolved land acquisition and utility shifting bottlenecks; (c) the details of the capital expenditure effectively utilized for urban mass transit projects in the State of Karnataka during 2025-26; (d) the positive impact on decongesting urban traffic and reducing the carbon footprint through these mass transit expansions; and (e) the steps taken to promote comprehensive Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) along these new rail corridors? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU) (a): Ministry of Railways has informed that the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP) is being implemented by Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE). The project has four corridors with a total route length of 148.17 km, with physical and financial progress of 19.85% and 16.86% respectively. Railway land required for the project has been transferred to K- RIDE. Further, the details of Bangalore Metro Rail Project as per Annexure-I (b): In addition to review by Central Government, the progress of metro projects is closely monitored by the Board of Directors and senior management of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL). High Powered Committee chaired by Chief Secretary, Karnataka also reviews the Metro Project to take expeditious decisions on matters for ensuring timely completion of metro projects. (c): BMRCL has informed that the capital expenditure for Metro Projects in the State of Karnataka during FY 2025-26 is ₹4,004.02 crore (till 28.02.2026). Further, Ministry of Railways have informed that an expenditure of ₹2,659 crore has been incurred on Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project. (d): The expansion of Metro and other mass transit systems facilitates modal shift from private vehicles to public transport, thereby reducing congestion and vehicular emissions. It also improves travel reliability and contributes to reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. (e): To promote Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) along metro corridors, BMRCL is undertaking station area planning with support from the Asian Development Bank.
