Will the Minister of Development of North Eastern Region be pleased to state:
(a) the number of projects funded by the Ministry located in landslide-prone or ecologically sensitive zones in North Eastern Region(NER);
(b) whether climate or disaster-risk screening was mandatory for such projects;
(c) the number of projects damaged or stalled due to environmental factors; and
(d) whether risk screening was not institutionalized despite repeated losses? ANSWER The Minister of State of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region [Dr. Sukanta Majumdar]
(a) Under schemes of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), 52 projects worth Rs 466.49 cr related to anti-erosion and flood control activities and other hazard risks have been sanctioned.
(b) to (d) Yes, under the schemes of MDoNER, it is mandatory to include the identification of risks and corresponding mitigation measures in the Detailed Project Report to address potential challenges. There are no projects damaged or stalled due to environmental factors.
