Parliament Question: Proposals for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2619 ANSWERED ON 16/03/2026 PROPOSALS FOR HYDERABAD METRO RAIL PHASE-II 2619. SMT. RENUKA CHOWDHURY: Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Central Government has received and examined the proposal for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II, if so, since when the proposal has been pending with the Centre; (b) the reasons for the delay in granting in-principle or final approval to the project, despite submission and its stated importance for urban mobility in a major metropolitan city; (c) whether the proposal is stalled at any specific level within the Central Government, including inter-ministerial consultations or appraisal committees; and (d) whether the Central Government has sought clarifications or imposed additional conditions that have contributed to the delay, if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU) (a) to (d): The proposals of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II (76.4 km) and Hyderabad Metro Phase-II (B) (86.1 km) were received in the Ministry from Government of Telangana on 04.11.2024 and 20.06.2025 respectively. The Metro Rail projects are highly cost intensive, which undergoes thorough appraisal process and examination which entails seeking additional information / clarifications at different levels in Central Government as per relevant provisions of Metro Rail Policy, 2017. The approval of project depends upon outcome of such appraisal process, feasibility of project and availability of the resources. *****
