(a) the details of funds allocated, released and utilized by the
Ministry for road infrastructure development in the State of West
Bengal since 2019, year-wise;
(b) the details of National Highway (NH) projects approved, under
implementation and completed in West Bengal during the said
period, district-wise particularly in Darjeeling and Kalimpong
districts;
(c) the total length (in km) of roads sanctioned, constructed and
upgraded in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts since 2019, along
with the expenditure incurred thereon;
(d) the number of beneficiaries, including residents, transporters
and local businesses, benefited due to the construction and
upgradation of NHs and other road projects in Darjeeling and
Kalimpong districts; and
(e) the steps being taken by the Government to improve road
connectivity, safety and maintenance in the hilly and border areas
of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts?

(c) Government in the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways
(MoRT&H) is responsible for development and maintenance of
National Highway in the country and provide assistance to State
Governments in development of state roads through CRIF. The total
length (in km) of roads sanctioned, constructed and upgraded in
projects passing through Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts since
2019, along with the expenditure incurred are as under:

(d) The construction and upgradation of National Highways in
Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, have benefited local residents,
transporters, tourists, and local businesses by improving
connectivity, reducing travel time, and enhancing road safety.
MoRT&H does not maintain record of numbers of beneficiaries.
(e) Development of NHs are taken up based on the traffic density,
connectivity requirement, condition of the road and synergy with PM
Gati Shakti NMP. Various measures including slope protection
(Retaining Wall, Breast Wall, Gabion Wall etc), installation of crash
barriers, traffic signages, road markings, lightings, pedestrian
3facilities, improvement of road geometry are taken up as per the
requirement for safety and maintenance in hilly and border areas of
Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
