TAMBARAM-TINDIVANAM DIGITAL HIGHWAY PROJECT

be pleased to state:
(a) whether the National Highways Authority of India is preparing
to launch Tamil Nadu’s first Internet of Things (IoT) integrated
highway on the busy Tambaram-Tindivanam stretch of National
Highway-32 and if so, the details thereof along with its salient
features;
(b) the time-frame by which the Tambaram-Tindivanam Digital
Highway project will be completed;
(c) whether the Government has allocated funds for the
implementation of Internet of Things enabled Digital Highways in
the country, if so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether the Government has inked any MoU with IT
companies for the smooth execution of the Digital Highway projects
in the country, if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS
(SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI)
(a) to (c) Government keeps on upgrading the network of National
Highway with modern technology to operate and maintain the
project highway in safe and traffic worthy condition. NationalHighways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken up the work
of additional Illumination and Major maintenance of existing
Illumination in the Tambaram–Tindivanam section of NH-32 at a cost
of Rs. 8.34 Crore.
The project includes installation of IoT ( Internet of Things) -enabled
lighting systems for remote monitoring and control through
Windows and Android platforms to ensure efficient management of
highway illumination.
The aforesaid work is currently in progress (65% achieved) and
scheduled for completion by April 2026.
(d) NHAI has signed an MoU with Digital India Corporation, a not-
for-profit Section-8 company under the Ministry of Electronics and
Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
